McKinsey & Company is the world’s leading management consultancy. Founded in Chicago in 1926, McKinsey laid the foundations of the management consulting profession and now has more than 90 offices in 45 countries around the globe. We serve the world’s best companies and organizations, providing them with the highest-quality professional advice to help them solve their toughest challenges.

McKinsey is based on values and designed for performance. Over the past seven decades, the company’s primary objective has remained constant: to serve as an organization’s most trusted advisor on the most important challenges facing its senior management – and to do so while adhering the highest professional standards. Fulfilling our promise to clients begins and ends with our people.

As an Associate with McKinsey, you will have the opportunity to work directly with client executives, advance leading-edge business thinking, and make a difference – regardless of your tenure. You will work in teams typically consisting of three to five consultants and led by a Partner. You will play an active role in all aspects of a client engagement: gathering and analyzing information, formulating and testing hypotheses, developing and communicating our recommendations, presenting the results to management, and implementing them. Being part of a client service team at McKinsey is an intense learning and development experience.

Developing talented individuals to their full potential is critical to McKinsey’s ability to serve the world’s most demanding institutions and achieve lasting impact. As an Associate at McKinsey, you will benefit from formal training programs as well as more informal on-the-job coaching and mentoring. Associates attend three weeks of formal training in their first year, followed by one or more weeks each subsequent year. These programs provide learning opportunities to meet Associates’ needs at various stages in their careers. Early-tenure programs focus on areas such as problem solving and communicating. Over time, the emphasis shifts to leading teams and forging relationships with client executives.

Beyond formal learning programs, Associates receive frequent coaching and mentoring from engagement managers and Partners on their teams. In addition, each Associate is assigned a Partner who helps guide the Associate through his or her McKinsey career.

McKinsey Associates also shape their own careers. They may work with clients across a range of industries and in different functional areas; they may choose to specialize in a particular area or remain a generalist; they may get the opportunity to work in or transfer to another office; they may work on a knowledge-building initiative; and they may participate in such activities as recruiting or training.
